It has been said that half of the passengers will be transported in public transport leaving everything including offices, courts and factories open. The government has taken this decision to ensure social distance in travel. However, the question has arisen as to how logical is the decision to transport half the passengers in public transport leaving everything open.
Transport sector officials say it will be difficult to ensure public transport in the big cities, including the capital Dhaka, with half the seats vacant. In addition, the pressure on the train will increase. Passengers will be transported in Laguna, CNG, autorickshaws and small vehicles like the Tempo. Besides, there will be extra fare pressure on the passengers.

The concerned authorities will issue instructions in this regard with a specific date of implementation. Drivers and assistants of all types of vehicles must have a certificate as a vaccine. In the meantime, the railway authorities have announced to run the train leaving half the seats vacant. This decision will be effective from Saturday. The Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) held a meeting with transport owners and workers at the company's central office in Banani on Wednesday. The meeting may decide when the bus will run with half the seats vacant and how much the fare will be. The Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) may also issue a notification today regarding the launch of half-capacity passenger transport.
Sources in the BRTA and the transport sector said that there were some real problems in implementing the directives of the Cabinet Division. For example, in this phase, the public transport has instructed to carry half the passengers without closing any office-court or factory. As a result, passengers in big cities, including the capital Dhaka, will remain the same. But the capacity of public transport will be reduced by half. At present, buses are crammed with passengers during office hours and holidays. If half of the seats are empty and the passengers are not standing, where will the rest of the passengers go? The relevant government agencies have no answer to this question.
