আমরা জানি বনের রাজা সিংহ। সিংহকে যে আমরা বনের রাজা বলি এটা কিন্তু এমনিতেই বলি না। তার শারীরিক বৈশিষ্ট্য তার আচার-আচরণ এটার উপর নির্ভর করে আমরা তাকে বনের রাজা বলে থাকি। এবং আমাদের জানার বাইরে আরো কিছু গুরুত্বপূর্ণ দিক আছে যার জন্য সিংহকে বনের রাজা বলা হয়।
জঙ্গলের মধ্যে নিজের রাজত্ব কে টিকিয়ে রাখা ও শাসন কার্য পরিচালনার জন্য সিংহদেরকে একটা লম্বা লড়াই লড়তে হয়। সকলের কাছে সিংহ একটি শক্তিশালী নেতা হিসেবে পরিচিত। কিন্তু এই শক্তিশালী দিয়ে তার কথা শুধুমাত্র একটি পুরো সিংহ ই জেনে থাকে। এ বিষয়টা অনেকেই জানেনা যে সিংহ কে শক্তিশালী হওয়ার জন্য ছোট থেকেই অনেক বেশি সংগ্রাম করতে হয়। যদিও এ বিষয়ে সিংহীরা তাদের বাচ্চাদেরকে ছোট থেকে অনেক সহযোগিতা করে থাকে। কিন্তু দিতেই যখন সন্তানদের বিরোধী হয়ে যায় তখন নরসিংহ সন্তানদের থেকে মুখ ফিরিয়ে নিতে বাধ্য হয়। এবং আজ আমরা সেই নির্মম সংঘর্ষ সম্পর্কে কিছুটা জানব।
সাপনার জঙ্গল আফ্রিকার সিংহদের বসবাসের সব থেকে নিরাপদ স্থান। যদিও এখানে সিংহরা আরাম-আয়েশে জীবন-যাপন করে থাকে তবুও তার পেছনের গল্পটা বেশ নির্মম। প্রাণিজগতের প্রত্যেকটা প্রাণীর জীবনী হচ্ছে প্রতিনিয়ত ঝুঁকি নিয়ে বেঁচে থাকা। আর এই বিষয়টা বিশেষ করে সিংহের বাচ্চাদের ক্ষেত্রে প্রযোজ্য। সিংহরা যখন দলবেঁধে শিকারে যায় মাঝেমধ্যে দেখা যায় কিছু সিংহ তাদের বাচ্চাকে নিয়ে হয়তো পিছনে পড়ে যায় একটু আলাদা হয়ে যায়। মাঝেমধ্যে বুনো মহিষের সাথে দেখা হয়ে যায়। যদিও এই বুনো মহিষ দেশ কোন শত্রুতা নেই সিংহের বাচ্চার সাথে কিন্তু বড় সিংহদের সাথে মহিলাদের শত্রুতা আছে তাই সেই ফলাফল হয়তোবা এই সিংহের বাচ্চা কি করতে হয়। কারণ যখন বুনো মহিষ একা পেয়ে সিংহের উপর আক্রমণ করে তখন হয়তো একসময় টিকতে না পেরে বড় সিংহটি পালিয়ে বেঁচে যায় কিন্তু তখন বিপদে পড়ে যায় সিংহের ছোট বাচ্চা। এবং এই ৩০ দিন বয়সী সিংহের বাচ্চারা তখন পর্যন্ত সিংহের সাথে লড়াই করার জন্য প্রস্তুত নয়। তপন সিংহের বুঝতে পারে যে তার বাচ্চার জীবনে চলে যেতে পারে এই মহিষের জন্য। আরে জন্য সিংহী অনেক চেষ্টা করে তার বাচ্চাদের রক্ষা করার। যদিও সে বুঝতে পারে যে তার সকল বাচ্চাকে রক্ষা করা একদমই সম্ভব নয় এই বুনো মহিষের দলের থেকে। তোমার একটা মজার বিষয় হচ্ছে এই বুনো মহিষ এরা কিন্তু খুব সহজে সিংহের বাচ্চার নাগাল পায় না। সিংহের বাচ্চারা যদি খুব বিপদে না পড়ে তাহলে বুনো মহিষের এদের ধরতেই পারে না যার ফলে তারা আঘাত করতে পারে না এবং এর ফলে দেখা যায় ওই সিংহের বাচ্চা বেঁচে যায়।
এবং যদি ওই বুনো মহিষ কোন সিংহের বাচ্চা কে তার নাগালে পেয়েও যায় তবে সেই মুহূর্তে বয়স তার পা দিয়ে বাচ্চাকে আঘাত করে এবং বাসাটা তাৎক্ষণিকভাবে মারাও যায়। তারপর মহিষাদল যখন চলে যায় তখন সিংহী তার মৃত বাচ্চার কাছে এসে আফসোস করতে থাকে। কিন্তু কিছুই করার থাকেনা। এবং এই সকল মৃত্যু ঘটলো সিংহের বাচ্চার এটা কিন্তু বড় সিংহ সিংহের শত্রুতার ফলাফল। এই জঙ্গলে কিন্তু বড় সিংহদের মাঝেও যুদ্ধ হয় এবং এই যুদ্ধে যে সিংহ হেরে যায় তার কাছ থেকে সবকিছু ছিনিয়ে নেওয়া হয়। এবং এই ঘটনা কিন্তু এখানেই শেষ নয় ওই যুদ্ধে হেরে যাওয়ার সিংহটির পরিবারের সকল বাচ্চাদেরকে হত্যা করা হয় নির্মমভাবে। এবং ওই সিংহ নীরবে তা দেখে শুধু যে তার সন্তানকে হত্যা করা হচ্ছে। এবং পরবর্তী মুহূর্তেই ওই সিংহ নতুন রাজার সাথে সম্পর্কে লিপ্ত হয় নতুন বংশবিস্তারের জন্য। শুধুমাত্র মাটিতে থাকা প্রাণীগুলো নয় বরঞ্চ নদীতে থাকা কুমিরগুলো সিংহের ছোট বাচ্চার শত্রু হয়।
আর এ জন্য সিংহ কখনো তার বাচ্চাকে চোখের আড়াল করে না। এবং বাচ্চার আশেপাশে কোন প্রাণীকে গ্রহণ করে না। সিংহের সব থেকে বড় শত্রু হলো হায়না। এই হায়নার আউৎ পেতে বসে থাকে কখন জানি একটা সিংহের বাচ্চা কে আক্রমণ করতে পারে।
এবং হয় নাকি যদি সিংহই দেখতে পায় তাহলে প্রচন্ড আক্রমণাত্মকভাবে হায়নাকে ধাওয়া করে। সিংহের যুবক বাচ্চারা তাদের শিক্ষার কে খোঁজার সময় অনেকক্ষণ বাপনকে পছন্দ করে নেয়। কিন্তু আমরা জানি যে বাপন কাছে চড়াই বেশ অভিজ্ঞ এবং তারা এটা বুঝতে পারা মাত্রই তারা গাছে উঠে বসে। কিন্তু সিংহের যুবক বাচ্চারা কিন্তু হাল ছাড়ে না তারাও গাছে ওঠে। বাপন নিজেকে বাঁচাতে গাছের উপর থেকে শুকনো ডাল এই সিংহের যুব বাচ্চাদের উপর ছুড়ে মারে যাতে তারা চলে যায় কিন্তু তখনও যায় না। এবং এরপর ওই বাপন টয়লেট করে দেয় সিংহের যুবক বাচ্চাদের ওপর। বাপনদা সাধারণত তাদের নিজেদের খাবার খোঁজার কাজে ব্যস্ত থাকে। কিন্তু যদি কখনো সুযোগ পায় তাহলে সিংহের ছোট বাচ্চাদের ধরে নিয়ে তারা গাছের উপর থেকে নিচের দিকে ছুড়ে মারে এবং হত্যা করে।
এখানে দেখুন আমরা যে বলি সিংহ বনের রাজা কিন্তু তাকে এই পূর্ণবয়স্ক রাজা হওয়ার মত অবস্থায় আসতে কি পরিমাণ সংগ্রাম করতে হয়। প্রতিনিয়ত জীবন মৃত্যুর সাথে লড়াই করতে হয় বেঁচে থাকার জন্য। আবার খাবারের জন্য লড়াই তো আছেই কারণ খাবার খেতে না পেলে তো হয়ে মারা যাবে যে কোন প্রাণীর শুধু সিংহ নয়। একদম ছোট থেকে বড় হওয়া পর্যন্ত তাকে যে প্রতিবন্ধকতা পার করে আসতে হয় এটাই থাক এই হিংস্র হতে বাধ্য করে। এবং এ কারণেই সিংহকে বনের রাজা বলা হয়। কারণ ছোটবেলা থেকেই সিংহরা ভয় কে জয় করে এসেছে।
