Leica is the first animal to go into space from Earth. And it was a dog.

 Before 1950, sending an animal into space was a matter of concern. So at different times, scientists sent ape monkeys, rats, etc. into space. The purpose was to test whether humans were sent to space missions, but the creatures died after being sent into space.

 

পৃথিবী থেকে মহাকাশের যাওয়া প্রথম প্রাণীর নাম লাইকা। আর এটি ছিল একটা কুকুর।

১৯৫০ সালের আগে কোন প্রাণীকে মহাকাশে পাঠানোর ছিল দুশ্চিন্তার একটা বিষয়। তাই বিজ্ঞানীরা বিভিন্ন সময়ে মাসি বানর ইঁদুর প্রভৃতি প্রাণী মহাকাশে পাঠিয়েছিল। উদ্দেশ্য ছিল এসপেস মিশনে মানুষ পাঠানো ঠিক কি না পরীক্ষা করে দেখা কিন্তু মহাশূন্যে পাঠানোর পর এই প্রাণীগুলো মারা গিয়েছিল।

In 1956, the then Soviet Union, Russia, successfully launched the first spacecraft, Spotnik-1, in the history of the world, and since then, Russian scientists have wondered if any creatures could be sent into space. They became desperate to implement this wish. Who had to pay compensation to a dog named Leica. Russian scientists hastily built Sputnik-2 for space exploration in just four weeks. It was designed for dogs only. It had three more things. Oxygen generator, carbon dioxide observer and a fan to keep the dog's cabin cool. There was also a 7-day meal for the dog to survive and a pot where he would leave the excrement. And the space made for the dog was so small that there was no way the waist would move a little. After creating it, Russian scientists only needed one dog. So they pick up a dog from the street because the dogs that are usually seen on the street are a little stronger. So they found out Leica K, a moneyless dog roaming the streets of Moscow. According to one of the science, this Leica was very calm. This Leica was very nice to see him being trained. Leica was confined to a small house for 20 days so that she would not have any difficulty during the expedition to Sputnik 2. The diet was also changed. And while this training may seem like training, it was a form of torture for Lycra. Scientists knew how to go into space because they had already launched a Sputnik mission. But sadly, scientists did not know how to get back from space, so the Liker space mission was a kind of suicide mission. Maybe he realized and maybe he didn't realize that his death was inevitable. But those scientists knew, and one of the scientists fell in love with Laika and took her to his house to let Laika play with her children.

এ রকমই একটা মিশনের বলি হয়েছিল লাইকা নামের কুকুরটি। ১৯৫৭ সাল তৎকালীন সোভিয়েত ইউনিয়ন তথা রাশিয়া পৃথিবীর ইতিহাসে সর্বপ্রথম মহাকাশ যান স্পটনিক -১ সফলভাবে উৎক্ষেপণ করেন আর এরপরই রুশ বিজ্ঞানীরা ভাবলেন, মহাকাশে কোন প্রাণীকে পাঠানো যায় কিনা। এই ইচ্ছা বাস্তবায়ন করার জন্য তারা মরিয়া হয়ে ওঠে। যার খেসারত দিতে হয়েছিল লাইকা নামক একটি কুকুরকে। রুশ বিজ্ঞানীরা অনেক তাড়াহুড়া করে মাত্র চার সপ্তাহের মধ্যে মহাকাশ অভিযানের জন্য স্পুটনিক- ২ তৈরি করে ফেলেন। এটার নকশা করা হয়েছিল শুধুমাত্র কুকুরের জন্য। এটার আরো তিনটি জিনিস ছিল। অক্সিজেন জেনারেটর, কার্বন ডাই অক্সাইড অবজারভার এবং কুকুরটির কেবিন ঠান্ডা রাখার জন্য একটি ফ্যান। এছাড়া ছিল কুকুরটির বেঁচে থাকার জন্য ৭ দিনের খাবার এবং একটি পাত্র যেখানে সে মলমূত্র ত্যাগ করবে। এবং কুকুরটির জন্য তৈরি স্থানটি এতই ছোট ছিল যে কটি একটু নড়াচড়া করবে তার উপায়ও ছিল না। এটা তৈরি করার পর রুশ বিজ্ঞানীদের প্রয়োজন ছিল শুধু একটি কুকুর। তাই তারা রাস্তা থেকে একটা কুকুরকে তুলে নেন কারণ সাধারণত রাস্তায় যে কুকুর গুলো দেখা যায় এরা একটু শক্ত সমর্থ বেশি হয়। তাই তারা খুঁজে নিল মস্কোর রাস্তায় ঘুরে বেড়ানো মনিবহীন কুকুর লাইকা কে। বিজ্ঞান এদেরই একজন এর মতে এই লাইকা খুবই শান্ত স্বভাবের ছিল। তাকে প্রশিক্ষণ করানো হচ্ছিল দেখতে অনেকটা সুন্দর ছিল এই লাইকা। লাইকা কে একটা ছোট্ট ঘরে আবদ্ধ রাখা হয়েছিল ২০ দিন যাতে করে এ স্পুটনিক ২ এ অভিযানের সময় তার অসুবিধা না হয়। খাবারেও পরিবর্তন আনা হয়েছিল। আর এই প্রশিক্ষণটি প্রশিক্ষণ মনে হলেও এটি লাইকার জন্য এক প্রকার নির্যাতন ছিল। বিজ্ঞানীরা জানত কিভাবে মহাকাশে যেতে হয় কারণ তারা ইতিমধ্যে স্পুটনিক এক অভিযানটি লঞ্চ করেছিল। কিন্তু দুঃখের বিষয় হচ্ছে বিজ্ঞানীরা এটা জানত না মহাকাশ থেকে কিভাবে ফিরে আসতে হয় তাই লাইকার এই মহাকাশ অভিযান টি ছিল এক প্রকার আত্মহত্যা অভিযান। হয়তোবা বুঝতে পেরেছে আবার হয়তোবা বুঝতে পারেনি যে তার মৃত্যু অনিবার্য। কিন্তু ওই বিজ্ঞানীরা জানতো, এবং বিজ্ঞানীদের মধ্যে একজন তার লাইকার প্রতি একটু মায়া হল এবং তার বাড়িতে নিয়ে গেলেন তার বাচ্চাদের সাথে লাইকা কে খেলতে দিলেন।

November 1, 1956. Sputnik was chained to Leica. And so he was kept for 3 days so that it would be tolerable during the expedition.

১৯৫৭ সাল নভেম্বরের ১ তারিখ। লাইকা কে শেকল দিয়ে বেঁধে স্পুটনিকে রাখা হলো। আর এভাবে তাকে ৩ দিন রাখা হলো যাতে অভিযানের সময় এটা সহনশীল হয় তার জন্য। 

 

Then comes that moment. The first animal to travel into space on a spacecraft. Like did not realize that this is his last breath of life. The 3rd of 1956 is the last day of breathing on the earth. Everyone present said goodbye to Leica in tears. Because they knew that Like would never return to earth. Can't taste the free air in the world anymore. Sputnik-2 was launched and Raika departed for good. But due to the mistake of the technicians, a part of the rocket could not be separated from the rocket.

 

এরপরই আসে সেই মুহূর্ত। মহাকাশযানে মহাকাশে অভিযানের জন্য প্রথম প্রাণীর অভিযাত্রা। লাইক আসলে বুঝতেই পারেনি যে এটাই তার শেষ পৃথিবীতে নিঃশ্বাস ফেলার। ১৯৫৭ সালের ৩ তারিখ লাইকার পৃথিবীতে নিঃশ্বাস এর শেষ দিন। উপস্থিত সবাই অশ্রুসিক্ত হয়ে লাইকা কে বিদায় জানালেন। কারণ তারা জানত যে লাইক আর কোনদিন পৃথিবীতে ফিরে আসতে পারবে না। পারবেনা পৃথিবীতে আর মুক্ত বাতাসের স্বাদ নিতে। স্পুটনিক-২ উৎক্ষেপণ করা হল আর সেই সাথে রওনা হল রাইকা চিরদিনের জন্য। কিন্তু টেকনিশিয়ানদের ভুলের জন্য রকেটের একটি অংশ রকেট থেকে আলাদা হতে পারেনি।

 The temperature of the like and heartbeat increases with the temperature. Normal temperature suddenly rises from 100 to 240. The temperature has not risen so much that at one point the signal from the cabinet sensor is also turned off in the hope. It is frightening to think of the condition of Lycra at this temperature. Pana fights with this temperature for 3 hours and at one point the Leica rate adjusts. The heroine goes to an unknown country. Leica circled the earth four times before she died. At that time Sputnik-2 was in space for 165 days. And with the dead Raika orbiting the earth 2560 times. On April 14, 1956, when Sputnik entered the atmosphere of the two worlds, it was burnt to ashes.

 

আসলে এই যে মহাকাশযানটি এটা চার সপ্তাহের মধ্যে তৈরি করা হয়েছিল। সময়টা আসলেই যথেষ্ট ছিল না সম্পূর্ণরূপে ত্রুটিমুক্ত করে এই যানবাহনটি তৈরি করার জন্য। আর এই দলটির জন্য কিছু সময় পার হতে না হতেই এই লাইকার কেবিনের তাপমাত্রা দ্রুত বৃদ্ধি পেতে শুরু করে। লাইকার কেবিনের 

তাপমাত্রার সঙ্গে সঙ্গে লাইক আর হার্টবিট এর তাপমাত্রা বাড়তে থাকে। স্বাভাবিক তাপমাত্রা ১০০ থেকে হঠাৎ করে ২৪০ এ পৌঁছে যায়। তাপমাত্রা এত বেড়ে গেছে না যে একসময় কেবিনেট সেন্সর থেকে সংকেত আশায়ও বন্ধ হয়ে যায়। এই তাপমাত্রায় লাইকার যে অবস্থা হয়েছিল এটা ভাবলেই আঁতকে উঠতে হয়। পানা ৩ ঘন্টা এই তাপমাত্রার সাথে লড়তে লড়তে একসময় লাইকা হার মেনে যায়। নায়িকা চলে যায় অজানার দেশে। মৃত্যুর আগ পর্যন্ত লাইকা পৃথিবিকে চারবার প্রদক্ষিণ করেছিলেন। ওই অবস্থায় স্পুটনিক-২ 165 দিন মহাকাশে ছিল। এবং মৃত রাইকা কে নিয়ে ২৫৭০ বার পৃথিবীকে প্রদক্ষিণ করে। ১৪ই এপ্রিল ১৯৫৮ সাল স্পুটনিক দুই পৃথিবীর অ্যাটমোস্ফিয়ার মন্ডলে প্রবেশ করার সময় পুড়ে গিয়ে লাইকটা সহ ছাই হয়ে যায়।

আসলে আমাদের জানার অনেক কিছু আছে। পৃথিবীর এখনো এক কথায় কিছুই জানি না আমরা। জানা অজানা অনেক কিছু রয়েছে সেগুলো কে জানার কৌতূহল আমাদের থাকা উচিত। এগুলো যেমন আমাদের জ্ঞান কে সমৃদ্ধ করে ঠিক তেমনি আমাদের জীবন চলার পথকে সুগম করে এবং পরিশ্রমী হতে উৎসাহ যোগায়।
