পরকীয়া হলো একটি সামাজিক ব্যাধি। পরকীয়ায় ‘সিরিয়াস’ কিছু সম্পর্ক খুব কম ক্ষেত্রেই হয়। এবং বেশির ভাগ ক্ষেত্রেই এই পরকীয়া সম্পর্ক পারিবারিক জীবনে অনেক অশান্তি ডেকে আনে এবং সেটা বিচ্ছেদ পর্যন্ত গড়িয়ে যায়।
একটি পরকীয়ার সম্পর্ক কখনোই পরিণতি পায় না। এই বিবাহ বহির্ভূত সম্পর্ক খুব কম ক্ষেত্রেই টেকসই হয়। এই বিষয়ে একমত করেছে সাম্প্রতিক একজন গবেষণা।
সাম্প্রতিক এর গবেষণায় দেখা গেছে, শতকরা ৫০ ভাগের বেশি এই পরকীয়া সম্পর্কের স্থায়িত্ব সর্বোচ্চ এক মাস থেকে এক বছর টিকে থাকে। আর এক বছরের বেশি হলে তা সর্ব্বোচ্চ হতে পারে ১৫ মাস কিংবা তার কিছুটা বেশি এই পর্যন্ত টেকসই হয়। আর শতকরা ৩০ ভাগ সম্পর্কই দুই বছর বা তার বেশি ও স্থায়ী হয়। পাঁচ ভাগের খুব কম ক্ষেত্রেই পরকীয়ার সম্পর্ক বিয়েতে গড়ায়। যদিও এই পরকীয়ার সংখ্যা বাড়ছে।
মিসৌরি স্টেট ইউনিভার্সিটির প্রফেসর অ্যালিসিয়া ওয়াকার দীর্ঘ আট বছর ধরে পরকীয়া প্রেম নিয়ে গবেষণা করছেন। তার একটি পেপার প্রকাশিত হওয়ার পর, এই নিয়ে সারা বিশ্বে সাড়া ফেলেছে। ‘স্ট্যাটিস্টা ডট কম’ ও ‘দ্য ইকোনমিক টাইম’ সেটি নিয়ে প্রতিবেদন করেছেন।
তাই পরকীয়া স্থায়িত্ব সম্পর্ক কোনোদিন ও সারাজীবন টিকে থাকে না।
