বিএনপিকে এটা বোঝাতে চেয়েছে যে তোমরা জিতে গেছো তোমরা জাতীয় নির্বাচনে আসা ফেয়ার ইলেকশন দিব। বিএনপির অধীনে যদি তথাকথিত স্বরাষ্ট্র মন্ত্রণালয় থেকেও থাকতো কিছুই আসত যেত না। এরকম আরো কয়েকটা মন্ত্রণালয় দিলেও কিছু যায় আসতো না। শেখ হাসিনা যেভাবে বসা আছেন দিনের শেষে সব কিছু সেভাবেই হতো। বরং নির্বাচনে গিয়ে শেষ পর্যন্ত শেখ হাসিনা সরকারকে বৈধতা দিতেন বিএনপি। ১৮ সালে বিএনপি কে নির্বাচনে যেতে হয়েছিল কারণ তার নিবন্ধন বাতিল হয়ে যেত। বিএনপি ১৮ সালে যে খুব কনফিউজড ভাবে নির্বাচনের কাছে বিষয়টা আমি এমন মনে করি না। কিন্তু সেই নির্বাচনে যদি আওয়ামী লীগের সাথে বিএনপি সমঝোতা করত বিএনপির কাছে সেই অফার ছিল সেখানে আসছে বেগম খালেদা জিয়া তার ট্রিটমেন্ট অনেক আগেই নিতে পারতেন।

BNP wants to convey that you have won, you will give fair elections in the national elections. Under BNP, nothing would have come from the so-called Ministry of Home Affairs. A few more such ministries would not have helped. The way Sheikh Hasina is sitting at the end of the day, everything would have been the same. Instead, BNP would have given legitimacy to Sheikh Hasina's government in the end. BNP had to go to the polls in 2018 because its registration would have been cancelled. I don't think this is the way BNP approached the elections in 2018 in a very confused way. But if BNP had reconciled with Awami League in that election, BNP had that offer, then Begum Khaleda Zia could have received her treatment much earlier.
