টসে জিতে ফিল্ডিংয়ের সিদ্ধান্ত নেই টিম ভারত। দারুন ফ্রমে থাকা অস্ট্রেলিয়ায় ট্রাভিস হেড এর ব্যক্তিগত ১৫২ রান এবং স্টিভ স্মিথ এর ব্যক্তিগত ১০১ রানের উপর ভিত্তি করে ৪৪৫ রানে থামে ১ম ইনিংস। বোলার ��কশনে জাসপ্রিত বুমরা একাই তুলে নেন ৬ উইকেট এবং মোহাম্মদ সিরাজ নেন ২ উইকেট। 

১ম ইনিংসে ভারতের লিড তখন ৪৪৫ নিয়মিত উইকেট হারানো ভারত রাহুল এর ব্যক্তিগত ৮৪ এবং রবীন্দ্র জাদেজার ব্যক্তিগত ৭৭ রান এর উপর ভিত্তি করে ২৬০ রানে সবকটি উইকেট হারিয়ে তাদের ইনিংস। বোলার একশনে কামিন্স এবং স্টার্ক যথাক্রমে ৪-৩ উইকেট তুলে নেন। 

২য় ইনিংসে ব্যাট করতে নামা অস্ট্রেলিয়া তখন এগিয়ে প্রায় ১৮৫ রান। ২যা ইনিংসে আরো ৮৯ রান করেন ৭ উইকেট হারিয়ে সময় না থাকায় ২৭৫ রানের টার্গেট ঘোষণা করে ব্যাটিংয়ে পাঠায় ভারত কে। ২য় ইনিংসে সময় না থাকায় ২.১ ওভারে ৮ রান করে সময় সমাপ্ত ঘোষণা করে ম্যাচ আমপায়ার।ফলে জয়ের একটু দূর থেকে ড্র ফলাফল মেনে নিতে হয় অস্ট্রেলিয়াকে।
