If I were mayor of my village for a week, would that be good or bad for me? On one hand, having such a big responsibility, even for a short time, would certainly feel good. But on the other hand, the people of the village would have many expectations of me. I could not solve all the problems in just seven days. So I would choose some things that could really help people and could continue even after I left.

First, I would focus on the roads and water drainage problems in the village. During the rainy season, bad roads can make everyday travel difficult, and waterlogging in some places can create even more problems. So my first step would be to repair some of the roads that need it most and make proper arrangements for water to drain away where necessary.
The second change would be about keeping the village clean. In many places, we see garbage being thrown beside the roads or in open areas. I would arrange some specific places for people to dispose of their garbage and would try to form a small volunteer cleaning team with young people from the village.

My third task would be for the young people of the village. Many young people have to leave their homes and go to other places in search of work. So I would try to arrange small-scale training in electrical work, AC repair, computer skills or other practical skills. I believe giving young people an opportunity to learn useful skills can be very important for their future.
Of course, all three of these things would require money. The road and drainage work might cost several hundred thousand taka, while cleaning and training would require comparatively less money. I would try to get support from the government and local administration. I would also seek voluntary help from people in the village who are willing and able to contribute. If necessary, I would reduce some non-essential expenses and use that money for these important works.
I believe many ordinary people, young people and parents in the village would support these decisions. But not everyone would agree with me. Some might question the cost, while others might not like the new rules or changes. I would not see them as my opponents. Instead, I would listen to their opinions as well, because knowing what local people think is important when trying to develop a village.
But the most important thing for me would be what happens after my one week as mayor ends. I would not want everything to stop as soon as I leave. From the beginning, I would try to involve local people and young people in these activities so that they could continue the work themselves.
It is not possible to change the whole face of a village in just one week. But one week can be enough to start something good. If I were really mayor for a week, I would rather start something that people could continue to benefit from after I leave than make big promises that would not last.
