A year is made up of twelve months, as there are twelve months in English, Bengali and Arabic also have twelve months. As in English, a year consists of twelve months, Bengali and Arabic also have a year of twelve months. Most of us people only know the names of English months, but do not know the names of Bengali and Arabic months. Most people use the English year because English is the international language. Bengali and Arabic years are not counted.
The first month of the English year is January and the last month is December. The first month of the Arabic year is Muharram and the last month is Zilhajj. And the first month of the Bengali year is Baishakh and the last month is Chaitra. A year ends when twelve months are completed according to the calculation of the year. Years are calculated according to the calendar of each language.
Today is the first day of Bengali year i.e. a date of Boishakh month. This day is called Pahela Baisakh, Bengali New Year. In our Bangladesh this Pahela Boishakh is celebrated with festivity and joy. On the occasion of Bengali New Year, Boishakhi fairs are organized in different parts of the country.
Panta-hilsa is a special attraction of every Baisakhi fair. Panta is eaten with water in rice which is called pani bhat, and hilsa is the national fish of Bangladesh. The smoke of eating panta hilsa in the earthenware pot. Many people come to the fair to eat panta and hilsa on this day even though they do not keep track of Bengali month throughout the year.
A huge procession is organized in Dhaka on the occasion of Pahela Boishakh, which is called Mangal Shobhayatra. Many people overdo it, which should never be done. Many do various evil deeds on this day which should never be done.
Passing a year means passing a chapter of your life, in the new year we all should learn, try to correct the mistakes of the last year and build a better life next year. Start your life with new enthusiasm.

হ্যালো বন্ধুগন আপনারা সবাই কেমন আছেন? আশা করি আপনারা সবাই অনেক ভাল আছেন এবং সুস্থ আছেন, আমিও আপনাদের দোয়া এবং সৃষ্টিকর্তার রহমতে অনেক ভাল আছি।
বারো মাসে হয় এক বছর, ইংরেজীতে যেমন বারো মাস আছে বাংলা এবং আরবীতেও বারো মাস আছে। ইংরেজীতে যেমন বারো মাসে এক বছর বাংলা এবং আরবীতেও বারো মাসে এক বছর। আমরা অধিকাংশ মানুষ শুধু ইংরেজী মাসের নাম জানি, কিন্তু বাংলা এবং আরবী মাসের নাম জানি না। অধিকাংশ মানুষই ইংরেজী বছর এর হিসাব রাখি কারণ ইংরেজী হচ্ছে আন্তর্জাতিক ভাষা। বাংলা এবং আরবী বছরের হিসাব রাখি না।
ইংরেজী বছরের প্রথম মাস হচ্ছে জানুয়ারি এবং শেষ মাস হচ্ছে ডিসেম্বর। আরবী বছরের প্রথম মাস হচ্ছে মোহাররম এবং শেষ মাস হচ্ছে জিলহজ্ব। আর বাংলা বছরের প্রথম মাস হচ্ছে বৈশাখ এবং শেষ মাস হচ্ছে চৈত্র। বছরের হিসাব অনুযায়ী বারো মাস শেষ হলে এক বছর শেষ হয়। প্রত্যেক ভাষার ক্যালেন্ডার অনুযায়ী বছরের হিসাব করা হয়।
আজকে বাংলা বছরের প্রথম দিন অর্থাৎ বৈশাখ মাসের এক তারিখ। এই দিনটিকে পহেলা বৈশাখ বলা হয়, বাংলা নববর্ষ। আমাদের বাংলাদেশে এই পহেলা বৈশাখকে উৎসব এবং আনন্দের সাথে পালন করা হয়। বাংলা নববর্ষ উপলক্ষে দেশের বিভিন্ন জায়গায় বৈশাখী মেলার আয়োজন করা হয়।
প্রত্যেক বৈশাখী মেলার বিশেষ আকর্ষণ থাকে পান্তা-ইলিশ। পান্তা বলা হয় ভাতের মধ্যে পানি দিয়ে খাওয়া যেটাকে পানি ভাত বলা হয়, আর ইলিশ হচ্ছে বাংলাদেশের জাতীয় মাছ। মাটির পাত্রে পান্তা ইলিশ খাওয়ার ধুম লেগে যায়। অনেকেই সারা বছর বাংলা মাসের হিসাব না রাখলেও এই দিন পান্তা এবং ইলিশ খেতে মেলায় চলে আসে।
পহেলা বৈশাখ উপলক্ষে ঢাকায় বিশাল বড় এক মিছিলের আয়োজন করা হয়, যেটাকে বলা হয় মঙ্গল শোভাযাত্রা। অনেকেই এটা নিয়ে একটু বেশি বাড়াবাড়ি করে ফেলে, যেটা করা কখনও উচিত নয়। অনেকেই এই দিনে বিভিন্ন মন্দ কাজ করে থাকে যেটা করাও কখনও উচিত নয়।
একটা বছর চলে যাওয়া মানে আপনার জীবনের একটা অধ্যায় চলে যাওয়া, নতুন বছরে আমাদের সকলের শিক্ষা নেওয়া উচিত, গত বছরের ভুলগুলো যেন ঠিক নিয়ে আগামী বছর আরও উন্নত জীবন গড়তে পারি সেই চেষ্টা করা। নতুন উদ্যমে, নতুন ভাবে নিজের জীবনকে শুরু করা।
