On Monday, Gujarat Titans announced that opener Shubman Gill will be leading the team in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) season. This decision comes as the franchise allowed Hardik Pandya to make a return to his initial IPL team, the Mumbai Indians.
Hardik Pandya, a key player who played a pivotal role in Mumbai Indians' four IPL title victories from 2015 to 2021, had captained Gujarat Titans to the IPL title in their debut season in 2022. He also led the squad to a runner-up finish against the Chennai Super Kings.
In addition to Pandya, Mumbai Indians have transferred Australia all-rounder Cameron Green, who was acquired for 175 million Indian rupees ($2.10 million) last year, to the Royal Challengers Bangalore.
Pandya's move back to Mumbai contributes an additional 150 million rupees to Gujarat's finances, providing a potential boost for the upcoming player auction in Dubai scheduled for December 19.
Vikram Solanki, the Director of Cricket for Gujarat, acknowledged Pandya's desire to rejoin Mumbai Indians in a statement, expressing respect for his decision and wishing him success in his future endeavors.
