Ukraine-Russia war: Ukrainian forces in desperate fight to recapture southern Kherson

British defense officials say Ukraine's bid to retake Russian-held Kherson has gained momentum.

Antonovsky Bridge, key to the city of Kherson, has become unusable after Ukrainian forces fired long-range US-supplied Hymers rockets, leaving the city almost cut off from other Russian-held areas.

Military analysts say the closure of the bridge would isolate Russian troops occupying Kherson, and would be a disaster for Russia.

Britain's defense and intelligence officials say thousands of Russian troops stationed near the Dnipro River are in a critical situation as the southern city of Kherson is almost cut off from other Russian-held towns in a counterattack by Ukrainian forces.
