Maize is one of the winter crops of Bangladesh. The seeds are sown in the winter and it takes almost late spring to grow in the farmer's house. Corn seed is one of the national food of Bangladesh. It is one of the main sources of food for low-income people when the whole world is facing food shortages.

সাধারণত শীত বসন্ত মিলে এই ফসলের চাষ হলেও বর্তমানে বাংলাদেশের আবহাওয়া এবং ঋতুর পরিবর্তনের কারনে গ্রীষ্মের সময়তেও এই ফসল ফলে। এই দুই সময়তেই কৃষক ভুট্টা চাষ করে অনেক বেশি লাভবান হন। তাই দেখে আমার স্বামী এবং শ্বশুর ভুট্টার চাষ করার সিদ্ধান্ত নেই।

বৈশাখ মাসের শুরুর দিকে জমি খাজনা নেন আমার স্বামী, কারন অন্য সব জমিতে তখন ফসল ছিল। পনেরো হাজার টাকার বিনিময়ে প্রায় দের বিঘা জমি নিজেদের নামে খাজনা করে তাতে ভুট্টা লাগান। বীজ, মানুষ, সার,বিষ দিয়ে ছয় হাজার টাকা খরচ হয়।
Now is the time to cut the corn and bring it home. By cutting the corn, only two maunds of corn were produced, which was not even one-fourth of the cost. Actually everything is luck. We are not too upset about it because we know there will be better things ahead.

এখন ভুট্টা কেটে ঘরে ওঠানোর সময়। ভুট্টা কেটে মারাই করে মাত্র দের মণ ভুট্টা হয়েছে যা খরচের প্রায় চার ভাগের একভাগও না। আসলে সব কিছুই ভাগ্য। আমরা এতে খুব বেশি মন খারাপ করছি না কারণ আমরা জানি সামনে আরও ভালো কিছু হবে।
সবারই এমন দৃঢ়তার সাথে এগিয়ে যাওয়া উচিত। সব হিসেবেই লাভ লোকসানের অংকটা এসেই যায়। এতে ভেঙে পড়ার কিছু নেই।
