Dear Companions Today I want to share with you some words about the evils of killing foetuses.Welcom to this post and congratulations to all.

The relationship between husband and wife in Islam is guided by principles found in the Quran and Hadith, emphasizing mutual respect, love, and compassion. This essay explores the rights and duties of a husband towards his wife according to these sacred texts.

Rights of the Wife in Islam

Financial Support (Nafaqah):

The Quran mandates that husbands are responsible for the financial support of their wives. This includes providing for their basic needs such as food, clothing, and shelter. Allah says in the Quran:

“Men are the protectors and maintainers of women, because Allah has given the one more (strength) than the other, and because they support them from their means…” (Quran 4:34).

This support is obligatory regardless of the wife’s wealth or income. It is the husband’s duty to ensure that his wife lives comfortably according to his means.

Kind and Respectful Treatment:

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) emphasized treating wives with kindness and respect. In his Farewell Sermon, he said:

"Fear Allah concerning women! Verily you have taken them on the security of Allah, and intercourse with them has been made lawful unto you by words of Allah. You too have rights over your wives, and they have rights over you." (Sahih Muslim).

The Prophet also said, “The best of you are those who are best to their wives.” (Sunan Ibn Majah).

Emotional and Physical Well-being:

A husband must ensure the emotional and physical well-being of his wife. This includes providing companionship, love, and understanding. The Quran encourages affection and mercy between spouses:

“And of His signs is that He created for you from yourselves mates that you may find tranquility in them; and He placed between you affection and mercy. Indeed in that are signs for a people who give thought.” (Quran 30:21).

Fair Treatment:

In cases where a man has more than one wife, Islam requires that he treat them equally and justly. The Quran warns:

“You will never be able to do perfect justice between wives even if it is your ardent desire, so do not incline completely (towards one) and leave another hanging. And if you amend and fear Allah, then indeed, Allah is ever Forgiving and Merciful.” (Quran 4:129).

Duties of the Husband in Islam

Leadership and Responsibility:

The husband is considered the leader of the family, responsible for its welfare and guidance. This leadership should be exercised with wisdom and justice. The Quran states:

“Men are in charge of women by [right of] what Allah has given one over the other and what they spend [for maintenance] from their wealth.” (Quran 4:34).

This role is not about domination but about fulfilling responsibilities and protecting the family unit.

Education and Spiritual Guidance:

A husband should encourage his wife in her spiritual and educational pursuits. He should support her in seeking knowledge and ensure that both he and his wife adhere to Islamic principles. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said:

“The seeking of knowledge is obligatory for every Muslim.” (Sunan Ibn Majah).

This encompasses both religious and worldly knowledge, contributing to the holistic development of the family.

Respecting Her Rights:

The husband must respect his wife’s rights, including her right to own property, work (with mutual consent), and maintain her own identity. The Quran provides for the independence of a woman in matters of property and inheritance:

“To men is allotted what they earn, and to women what they earn.” (Quran 4:32).

Consultation and Mutual Decision-Making:

Islam encourages consultation (Shura) in family matters. A husband should involve his wife in decision-making processes, respecting her opinions and considering her perspective. The Quran advocates for mutual consultation:

“And those who have responded to their lord and established prayer and whose affair is [determined by] consultation among themselves…” (Quran 42:38).

Examples from the Life of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)

The life of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) serves as the perfect model for husbands. His treatment of his wives was exemplary, marked by love, respect, and understanding.

Helping with Household Duties:

The Prophet would assist his wives with household chores, highlighting the importance of cooperation and support in marriage. Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) reported:

“He used to serve his family, and when the time for prayer came, he would go out to pray.” (Sahih Bukhari).

Showing Love and Affection:

The Prophet showed great love and affection towards his wives. He was known for his gentleness and consideration. He would often express his love for Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) and treated her with great kindness.
